Instant Employment Verification - What is it & How does it work?

What is Instant Employment Verification?


Instant Employment Verification is a method of verifying your candidate’s employment history via Open Banking, HMRC or payroll provider. Traditionally, your candidate would have to spend a considerable amount of time inputting their employment history, along with the contact details of someone who could verify their employment. This method relied heavily on the employer coming back to us to confirm their employment which drastically increased the time to complete screening.

Instant employment verification streamlines the process for your candidates, and provides you with accurate information instantly.


How Does It Work?

With instant employment verification your candidate can simply, add the name of the company they worked for and the dates they were employed. Your candidate will then be made aware that they will be completing their employment history via our data partner, Konfir and will be asked to connect. Before any information can be pulled your candidate will be asked for their consent at multiple points during the process. Once a candidate has given their consent, and completed the connection to their banking provider, Konfir will complete a secure search for the company name and dates that payments were made to confirm employment.

The candidate will then be given the option to connect via their previous employers payroll system and asked to give their consent before the connection is made. Once consent is given Konfir will ask the candidate to confirm their home address to successfully pull confirmation of employment.

The last step is to verify employment via HMRC, to do this your candidate is asked to log-in via their government gateway account directly where they will be asked for their consent for a connection to be made so employment can be confirmed via employment and PAYE income records.

By partnering with Konfir to conduct instant employment verification we can start to eliminate manual checks, which will reduce the potential for errors and discrepancies that can lead to screening delays.


What does it mean for my candidate’s screening journey?


We have brought in instant employment verification to improve our candidate’s journey with us. We have found that candidates often stall at this section of the screening because they may need to find out the details of employers before submitting the screening form. For some candidates their employment history can be complex, by introducing instant employment verification it takes the pressure off the candidate and speeds up the screening process for you.

We will never share any financial information and will only display the necessary information needed to confirm the candidate’s employment history. Connections are never made without your candidates explicit consent.

This information is pulled and a report is generated which will appear on your candidate’s overall screening report.
