Digital ID Verification - Confidence Levels Explained
We use biometric, facial recognition software in conjunction with documentation to confirm a candidate's identity. To do this, candidates simply complete the online screening form to provide us with the information we need in order to digitally verify their ID, they are then directed to Mitek where they will upload their documents and complete a liveness ('selfie') check.
You may have received a notification from the portal that asks you to verify the ID of one of your candidates documents. This happens when the check(s) cannot be conducted digitally because the 'confidence' level has not been reached. A confidence level is a term used to determine whether a candidates documents meet the standards required to be verified digitally.
In order to digitally verify a candidates documents there are 4 main elements that must be considered before an overall confidence score is given, these are;
- The evidence provided is genuine or valid
- The claimed identity has existed over time
- If the claimed identity is at a high risk of identity fraud
- The identity belongs to the person claiming it
Each step produces a score, these scores are collected and then they confirm the level of confidence.
If a candidate scores a low confidence level, the check(s) will be conducted manually by our screening team. So, if you need to verify a candidates documents it means that they have not reached the confidence level required for the check to be digitally verified, and someone within your organisation is required to physically check the documents and verify their candidates identity in person.
In order for a DBS check to go through using digital ID certain 'confidence' levels must be reached, please see a breakdown below.
DBS confidence levels:
Basic DBS check = Medium Confidence Level
Enhanced DBS check = High Confidence Level
Standard DBS check = High Confidence Level
To pass through a Right to Work check the candidate must score a minimum of a 'Medium confidence' level.
These are rules set out by the UK Government, for more information, please visit the official Government website for further details.
